ESPN announced the nominees for The 2022 ESPYS on Tuesday, including Alabama Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and Auburn gold-medal gymnist Suni Lee.
The annual awards show will broadcast live on Wednesday, July 20 at 7 pm on ABC from Los Angeles.
The ceremony will relive the highlight moments of the year, honor leading athletes and performances, and bring together the sports industry’s fan favorites and biggest stars.
Lee is nominated for top women’s Olympian as well as top women’s athlete.
Young, meanwhile, is nominated – along with the Crimson Tide – for best game for the rally against Auburn to win the Iron Bowl in four overtimes. Young is also nominated for best men’s college athlete.
The Iron Bowl has some tough competition in the Best Game category. Other nominees include the Kansas City Chiefs ‘OT win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Game, UConn’s double-OT win over NC State in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament, and Kansas’ 16-point rally in the NCAA men ‘t basketball title game, which was the biggest comeback in championship game history.
In the Iron Bowl, John Metchie caught a scoring pass from Bryce Young in the fourth overtime to give No. 3 Alabama a 24-22 comeback victory over rival Auburn, marking the first overtime in the Iron Bowl.
The 2022 ESPYs will showcase the achievements of inspiring and courageous athletes who embody the spirit of The ESPYS through three pillar awards – the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage which will be presented to Vitali Klitschko, the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance which will be presented to Dick Vitale, and The Pat Tillman Award for Service presented by MassMutual which will be presented to Gretchen Evans this year.
