Doctor Who has revealed the first official look at Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor in costume.
First shared on social media on Saturday (December 17) evening, the new photos offer a first look at Ncuti’s outfit – a brown and orange checked ensemble with matching brown boots.
The post was captioned with the words: “Introducing the Doctor and Ruby Sunday, played by Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson.”
Another image shows co-stars Gatwa and Gibson, also in costume, posing together on the steps of a trailer.
Fans of the show had been anticipating news about what the characters will be wearing for a little while, after the latest edition of Doctor Who magazine confirmed that both actors had attended their first fittings with the show’s costume designer on October 31.
Ncuti, who takes over the role of the Doctor full-time in 2023 following the 60th-anniversary specials featuring David Tennant as the Time Lord, previously confirmed that he would have a say in his costume.
Filming for his first season at the controls of the TARDIS officially started earlier this month. It’s been confirmed that Dylan Holmes Williams, whose previous credits include episodes of M. Night Shyamalan’s Servet, will be in charge of the first episode.
Doctor Who season 14 also sees the return of Russell T Davies as showrunner. Davies recently confirmed that he is “writing a Christmas Special… at Christmas!”
He added that his script is in fact for the end-of-year special in 2024, not 2023, and clarified that he plans for “annual Doctor Whono gap years, lots of content, on and on” in the coming years.
Doctor Who returns in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on BritBox in the UK.
