Kate Hudson candidly reflected on the breakdown of her past relationships and said she felt ‘liberated’ when she started taking ‘accountability’ for her own behaviour.
The actress, 43, opened up about how she found the breakdown of her relationship with Matt Bellamy ‘really hard’ because she ‘didn’t want it to end’.
But she admitted she found ‘power’ in being ‘honest’ with herself and taking ‘accountability’ for the part she played in the ending of their romance.
Looking back: Kate Hudson candidly reflected on the breakdown of her past relationships and said she felt ‘liberated’ when she started taking ‘accountability’ for her own behavior
Speaking on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, she explained: ‘You have to be honest with yourself. I think that’s when things started changing for me when I started taking far more accountability for my own sh*t.
‘That was when it started to shift because that’s where I think you find your power, when you realize how imperfect we all are, when you’re okay with that, it’s very liberating.
‘After my second failed baby daddy relationship, that moment for me was like, “okay, now I have to figure this out”.
‘That was really hard for me because I didn’t want that to end, but I was like, “oh this is an issue. I need to figure out what this is in my life, this pattern I keep repeating, and take accountability for it”. That was the biggest change for me in my life.’

Kate shares her eldest son Ryder, 18, with her ex-husband Chris Robinson, whom she was married to from 2000 until 2006, before their divorce was finalized in 2007.
She then welcomed her second child Bingham, 11, with her ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy and also shares a daughter Rani Rose, four, with her current fiancé Danny Fujikawa.
Kate also reflected on how her mother Goldie Hawn taught her to take responsibility for her behavior, saying she was ‘forced’ to look inwards when she was younger.
She added: ‘I grew up with my mom saying, you know, if you put one finger out, there’s always three pointed back at you.

‘That’s my grandmother’s line and my mom would say that to us and every time we’d come home from school and there’d be a drama or an issue, she’d be like, “You can point that finger out, but what are those three things that you are bringing to the table?”
‘So even when it was really annoying to have to go there, we were always kind of forced to go there when we were younger. And so I always live by that. It’s like the second something’s not right. I look inward, like, ‘what am I doing?’
‘I think the issue is when people blame everybody else for any challenges or hardships, that’s not a good sign,’ she added.
Kate, who is currently starring in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, also described her actress mother Goldie, 77, as a trailblazer for women because she produced her own films.
Family: She then welcomed her second child Bingham, 11, with her ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy and also shares a daughter Rani Rose, four, with her current fiancé Danny Fujikawa
She said: ‘She was one of the first, if not the first (female) actress to produce her own films.
‘Whereas men had been doing it, women hadn’t been and she came out and started producing and she had to beat doors down and deal with being considered unlikable and all.
‘Someone like my mom – who’s actually the best – she was uncompromising about her work or about the movies that she wanted and it didn’t sit well with a lot of people to be sort of confronted by a female producer, actress/producer.
‘She really led the way for a lot of us in that way and it takes a lot of guts and courage and it’s not fun.
‘So the women that have that ability, those real trailblazers that take that on and just do it, it’s really courageous.’
Role model: Kate also reflected on how her mother Goldie Hawn taught her to take accountability for her behavior, saying she was ‘forced’ to look inwards
Speaking about how the film industry has changed, Kate said she now feels like she can speak up about misogyny without the fear of losing a job but admitted there is still more work to be done for representation.
‘The frustrating thing is I think the dialogue is there but I’m not so sure the implementation is really as active as it should be. I think it’s getting more, it’s getting better,’ she said.
‘But there’s a lot of things that happen that you’re like, ‘no, you really shouldn’t do that,’ and people know.
‘People know a lot of people are trying to figure out how to navigate it and at the end of the day, with anything systemic, whether it be racism or misogyny, it’s a really hard thing to unlearn, and you see it all the time .
Inspiring: Kate also described her actress mother Goldie, 77, as a trailblazer for women because she produced her own films
‘So my hope is that the dialogue just continues. I love that you can call people out on it more without it being something where you’re afraid you’ll lose a job.
‘That you can actually have a real honest conversation with someone that didn’t feel right but I still think we have a way to go with this and we’ll get there.’
It comes after Kate recently gave an insight into co-parenting her children with her exes, calling her blended family ‘so strong’.
She told The Sunday Times: ‘Chris and I just need to check in once in a while, Matt is so wonderful. I couldn’t have asked for a better co-parent. You can have an amazing time with an ex-partner because you are really only focused on the love of your child.’
Kate admitted she is also very close with Matt’s wife Elle, 32, and they all go on holidays together.
She said: ‘It might not look traditional from the outside but not the inside I feel like we’re killing it, the unit that I’ve created with three children with three different fathers is a seriously strong unit and it’s ours.’
Kate also shared her desire to marry her partner Danny, whom she met when she was pregnant with Ryder.
They went on their first date in 2016 before welcoming their daughter Rani in 2018 and they then got engaged in 2021.
