FINAL SCORE: Class 7A: Thompson 49, Auburn 24

10:12 PM, MVP: Trent Seaborn was officially named MVP, although the 8th grader handed the plaque to wide receiver Korbyn Williams. Seaborn threw 5 TD passes, Williams caught 4 of them.

10 PM, That’ll do it: Thompson covers the onside kick with 1:07 left and runs out the clock. Fourth straight state title for the Warriors. Auburn denied its first title for the second time in three years.

9:57 PM, 7 the hard way: Auburn scores anyway. Davis Harsin with a 22-yard pass to Ean Nation. The PAT is good. Tigers cut the Thompson lead to 49-24 with 1:11 left.

9:55 PM, Reversed: After review, officials rule Flakes down at the half yard line. And, since Auburn was called for a personal foul after the play, that moves the ball back to the 22. The score goes back to 49-17. It’s just not been Auburn’s day.

9:51 PM, Well: With 1:30 left and Thompson winning by 4 TDs, we are having a review. Tyler Flakes appeared to score on a 4-yard run for Auburn. If it stands, the Warrior lead is 49-23.

9:49 PM, Really remarkable: Can’t say enough about 8th grader Trent Seaborn’s performance tonight. He made one bad pass that was intercepted by Auburn. He completed 12 of his other 13, 5 of which went for TDs. He is sitting out the final quarter with Thompson leading 49-17 with 2:45 left.

9:38 PM, On the board: Tyler Flakes scores on a 29-yard run for Auburn. Drive was engineered by backup QB Davis Harsin. Tigers cut the Thompson lead to 49-17 with 5:59 left in the game.

9:34 PM, Ticking down: With 6:57 left in the game, Thompson leads Auburn 49-10. As mentioned, this will be the Warriors’ fourth straight Class 7A state title and the 10th title overall for coach Mark Freeman. Auburn coach Keith Etheredge will be denied his 6th title in his first championship trip with the Tigers.

9:26 PM, New QB: Zach Sims, who started the season at QB for Thompson, relieved Trent Seaborn for the final quarter. If he’s done, Seaborn finishes 12-of-14 for 207 yards and 5 TDs. He was intercepted once. Also, Davis Harsin now in at QB for Auburn — Yes, that Harsin.

9:22 PM, Headed to the 4th … mercifully: Thompson has scored the last 28 points and now leads 49-10.

9:16 PM, Make it 5: Seaborn-to-Williams again. That’s 5 TD passes for Trent Seaborn. This one was tipped, but Williams caught it, broke a tackle and rambled into the end zone from 25 yards out. It’s now 49-10 with 2:33 left in the third quarter. Seaborn now 12-of-14 for 207 yards and 5 TDs. Korbyn Williams has 6 receptions for 142 yards and 4 TDs.

9:03 PM, Make it 4: Trent Seaborn throws his 4th TD pass of the night. He hits Korbyn Williams from 25 yards out and it’s a complete blowout. Thompson leads 42-10 with 6:40 left in the third and this one has never really been close. Seaborn is 11-of-13 for 182 yards and 4 TDs.

8:57 PM, Picked off: Thompson’s Kaleb Harris intercepts Clyde Pittman. The Warrior defense has been smothering tonight.

8:54 PM, Welp: On the first play of the second half, Thompson’s AJ Green goes 80 yards for a Thompson touchdown. Now, it’s officially a rout. Warriors lead 35-10 12 seconds into the second half. Green now has 143 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 carries.

8:44 PM, Huge crowd: Auburn High brought a huge crowd as expected. Former Auburn University coach Bryan Harsin was expected here to see his son, Davis, play for the Tigers. However, he hasn’t been spotted just yet in the large crowd wearing black and blue.

8:38 PM, Analysis: Thompson’s 8th-grade QB Trent Seaborn made one bad throw that was intercepted and set up Auburn’s only TD. Other than that, he’s been impressive. The 45-yard pass he threw to Korbyn Williams to set up Thompson’s last score was perfect. Auburn, on the other hand, has had a hard time moving the ball at all on Peter Woods and the Thompson defense. The Tigers have rushed for -19 yards on 13 carries. Woods, the 5-star Clemson commit, has 3 tackles.

8:32 AM, Halftime stats: Thompson has run 32 plays for 220 yards. Auburn has 29 plays for just 66 yards. Thompson QB Trent Seaborn is 10-of-12 for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was intercepted once. Korbyn Williams has 4 receptions for 92 yards and 2 TDs. AJ Green has rushed 17 times for 63 yards and a TD. For Auburn, Clyde Pittman is 7-of-15 for 85 yards. DV Williams has rushed seven times for 29 yards and a TD. Ean Nation, Auburn’s single-season record holder for receptions, has just one for 3 yards.

8:26 PM, Halftime: Thompson 28, Auburn 10. Huge answer by the Warriors after Auburn had cut a 21-0 lead to 21-10.

8:19 PM, That was quick: Thompson responds in 3 plays. After a running play lost a yard, Trent Seaborn hits Korbyn Williams on a perfect 45-yard pass down the right sideline for a first down and then hooks up with him again for a 36-yard touchdown. Just like that, the Warriors are up 28-10 with 1:22 left in the half. Those 2 passes could turn out to be the plays of the game.

8:15 PM, Getting closer: Towns McGough is perfect on a 46-yard field goal for Auburn. Tigers have scored the last 10 points and now trail Thompson 21-10 with 2:17 left in the first half. Nice comeback for Keith Etheredge’s team, which was on the verge of getting run out of Jordan-Hare a few moments ago.

8:11 PM, Settling down: Thompson’s offense has settled down after scoring 3 touchdowns in 3 possessions. Auburn holds again and has the ball back at the Thompson 47 with 3:32 left in the half. Score here would obviously be huge for the Tigers. Thompson gets the kick to start the second half. Mark Freeman has gone a little conservative after an interception by his 8th grade QB.

8:05 PM, Nothing doing: Auburn goes 3-and-out and punts it back to the Warriors, who will start at their 15. Thompson leads 21-7 with 5:57 left in the first half.

8:02 PM, Tigers get a stop: Thompson goes 3-and-out. Auburn has the ball again at the Thompson 45 with 7:12 left in the half.

7:56 PM, Getting a lift: On fourth-and-a-foot, Auburn’s DV Williams reverses his field and goes 17 yards for the Tiger touchdown. Auburn on the board. Thompson leads 21-7 with 9:25 left in the half. Huge change in momentum there. It looked like a Thompson blowout — still might be — but the Tigers are in it for now.

7:53 PM, First mistake: Trent Seaborn is pressured and picked off by Caleb Pitts. Tigers get a needed break. First down at the Thompson 26.

7:45 PM, End 1: Thompson 21, Auburn 0. Tigers don’t have a first down yet. Auburn had 5 yards of offense. Thompson had 134 yards on 19 carries. 8th grade QB Trent Seaborn is 6-of-6 for 78 yards and 2 TDs.

7:41 PM, It’s ugly: Trent Seaborn with a 9-yard TD pass to Korbyn Williams. Thompson scored on all 3 drives. Auburn doesn’t have a first down. Warriors lead 21-0 with 1:05 left in the quarter. Does Korbyn Williams sound familiar? He blocked a crucial punt and ran it back last time these two teams met.

7:38 PM, Timeout, Thompson: Warriors have a third-and-7 from the Auburn 8 with 1:10 left in the first quarter of what has been a total mismatch so far.

7:34 PM, Not going well: Auburn goes 3-and-out again and then gets a 9-yard punt. Thompson starts at the Auburn 36, already up 2 touchdowns.

7:29 PM, Bombs away: Thompson’s Trent Seaborn hits Kolby Hearn behind the Auburn secondary for a 49-yard touchdown. It’s all Warriors early. Thompson leads 14-0 with 4:46 left in the first quarter. Reminder: Seaborn is an 8th grader who didn’t start until the playoffs.

7:28 PM, Nothing doing for the Tigers: Auburn has run six plays (not counting 2 punts) and lost a yard. Tigers punt it back to Thompson.

7:20 PM, Green finds green: AJ Green scores the touchdown on a 1-yard run. The PAT is good and Thompson leads 7-0 with 6:14 left in the first quarter. 8th-grade QB Trent Seaborn was a perfect 2-of-2 on the drive, but Green did most of the work. Good start for the Warriors.

7:19 PM, Warriors on the move: Thompson has moved 45 yards on nine plays, including seven AJ Green runs. Warriors have a third-and-goal from the Auburn 1. Timeout, Thompson. 6:20 left in the first quarter. Huge crowd on hand, especially on the Auburn side.

7:13 PM, Tony is back: Alabama committed Tony Mitchell with a third-down sack of Auburn quarterback Clyde Pittman. Auburn is three-and-out on its first possession.

7:08 PM, Coin Toss: Thompson wins toss and defers. Auburn will receive. Just a reminder, all games can be seen this year on Alabama Public Television. But, why go there, you can follow the updates here! Here we go

7:01 PM, A little late: Lineups still be introduced here so we will kick a little late. Thompson has been introduced. They are the visitors today. Auburn being introduced now.

6:51 PM, How good is he? The best player on the field tonight could be Thompson sophomore DB Anquon Fegans. Former Vigor head coach Kerry Stevenson, who also worked on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama and Jeremy Pruitt’s staff at Tennessee, said Fegans is a “top five draft pick.”

6:45 PM, Getting close: 15 minutes away from the kickoff between Thompson and Auburn. 5-star Clemson commit Peter Woods is playing in his fifth state title game.
